The Visionaries Behind Tara Bella

Who grows Cabernet Sauvignon in the heart of Russian River Valley? Meet Kevin and Wendy Morrow. While the region is best known for its world-class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, they saw something others didn’t: the potential to craft exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon.

Their winemaking journey began in 1986, starting humbly in a garage with Cabernet fruit from some of Sonoma County’s most prestigious vineyards. For over two decades, they nurtured a dream—to one day own a vineyard and winery of their own in Sonoma County.

That dream became a reality in 2010 when they purchased Tara Bella Winery & Vineyards. The six-acre Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard was already well established, with three acres of Clone 4 vines planted in 1998. In 2005, with Kevin’s guidance, the remaining three acres were planted to Clone 7, further enhancing the site’s potential.

Since taking over, Kevin and Wendy have fine-tuned both vineyard and cellar practices to elevate quality with every vintage. Today, Tara Bella focuses on producing two standout wines: a Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon made from Clone 4 grapes, and an Estate Cabernet Sauvignon crafted from Clone 7. They also create a limited Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Clone 7 fruit—a refreshing expression of their estate.

With an annual production of just 500 cases and over 90% going directly to their devoted Wine Club members, these wines are as rare as they are remarkable.

A Place That Felt Like Home

What first drew Kevin and Wendy Morrow to Tara Bella was more than just the promise of exceptional grapes—it was a feeling. A sense of possibility. A connection to the land. Their love for all things wine, from vineyard to glass, met its perfect match in this extraordinary property nestled in the heart of the Russian River Valley.

The vineyard itself was already producing superb quality Cabernet Sauvignon—exactly the varietal they were passionate about, and one not often associated with this region. That rarity intrigued them.

Tara Bella feels like a place suspended in time. With its gently rolling hills and sun-kissed vines, the estate evokes the charm of Tuscany, the romance of Provence, and the timeless elegance of Bordeaux. It’s a landscape that speaks to the soul—where beauty, peace, and purpose meet.

For Kevin and Wendy, Tara Bella wasn’t just a winery to own—it was a dream realized. A place where they could pour their passion into every bottle, connect deeply with the land, and share something truly special.

Tara Bella, sadly, is no longer open to the public for tasting.  Kevin & Wendy are still growing their beautiful grapes and making the fabulous wines but are not having visitors….. long story.
